Hardy Board Siding Repair

  • Inspect the screws used to secure the siding to the house.
  • Cover each screw hole with flexible caulk
  • level the caulk with the surface of the siding with a putty knife
  • locate a screw that is not countersunk into the wood
  • Use a screwdriver to countersink it and then apply the flexible caulk.
  • Do not use any caulk other than flexible caulk or the paint will eventually crack around the caulking.
  • Allow at least 24-hours drying time unless the directions on the caulk indicate a shorter curing time.
  • Spray the side of your house with a high-pressure power sprayer to remove dirt buildup from the siding.
  • Hardie siding does not soak up water
  • Move on once the surface of the siding appears dry
  • Tape off areas you do not wish to paint such as window frames, doorframes and light fixtures.
